A particular challenge in Samurai breeding is the potential for the Dragon gene to infiltrate the line, especially in Dragon Samurai crosses. While this can produce visually impressive fish, the Dragon gene carries the risk of diamond eye (where opaque scaling grows over the cornea, impairing or eliminating vision). Breeders should be aware of this risk and avoid pairing two heavy-Dragon individuals if they wish to minimise the incidence of diamond eye in their fry.
